History :
The first inhabitants of Venice consisted of refugees from Roman cities near Venice such as Padua and Aquileia who were fleeing from Germanic and Hun invasions during around 300 AD and the founding of the Republic of Venice took place on 421 AD by the authories in Padua establising a trading post in the region. Venice prospered for many years until the Ottoman Empire declared war on them during the 16th century costing the city a big share of its possessions. The city became part of the new found Kingdom of Italy during the Third Italian War of Independence.
