Uplistsikhe in Georgia, Shida Kartli
Introduction :
Uplistsikhe is a cave Town is located in Eastern Georgia near the town of Gori in the region of Shida Kartli. This cave town is part of the ancient Silk Road and is built on a high rocky bank of the Mtvari River and is unique for the various style of rock-cut cultures and protrays the co existance of Pagan and Christian architecture. It is in the tentative list of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites and is one of the oldest urban settlements in the whole of Georgia.

History :
Human history in the Uplistsikhe Cave Town dates back to ask early as 1500 BC and stretches to the 14th century being an important political and religious center in Georgia. The Monglian raids in the 14th century resulted in the decline and abandonment of the town and is only used as a temporary shelter during foreign invasions.

The nearest international airport to the attraction is the Tbilisi Airport which is located just 17 km from the capital of Georgia in Tbilisi. This is followed by a road trip of around 80 km to the town of Gori which is 10 km from the Uplistsikhe Cave Town
